- You deserve to make sure you’re understood, respected, and cared for when you visit the doctor. It can be hard to come to terms with having an STI, and you shouldn’t have to feel any stress or dismissal from others during this time.
- Be honest with your doctor, as you always should be. Let them know that you’re aware that they’re treating you to the best of their ability, but you’re struggling to come to terms with your diagnosis. It may not be a big deal to them, but it’s really scary for you.
- Ask them to be gentler about the way they talk to you. Whether they see this STI a lot is none of your concern, especially because you’re already emotional about it and want to feel heard.
- If you still feel the same after having the conversation, ask to get a second opinion, or view our clinic finder to find other health care providers that may better suit your needs.
