Menstruation

Which is also known as having your period, is when blood and tissue from the uterus comes out of the vagina and this usually happens every month.

The cycle is helping one’s body prepare itself to house a potential pregnancy. It’s controlled by hormones like progesterone and estrogen!

the 4 phases of the menstrual Cycle
  • Menstruation Phase: This is when one’s period would occur (usually 3-7 days)
  • Follicular Phase: this is when the egg is maturing in the ovaries, and the uterine lining is preparing to receive a fertilized egg (usually day 7-12)
  • Ovulation Phase: This is when the ovary releases the egg, which then can be fertilized by sperm if present
  • Luteal Phase: this is when the egg travels through the fallopian tubes to the uterus; if it is fertilized, the embryo may attach to the uterine lining and the person with the uterus will then become pregnant; if the egg is not fertilized, the uterine lining will shed and the cycle will begin again
